 2025 GRADE R & GRADE 1 APPLICATIONS

 A Request for Application form will be available from Wednesday 10 April 2025 and must be collected and signed for, in person by a parent/guardian from Reception at Port Shepstone Junior Primary School

 Please note the following:

1.             It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to complete the request for application form accurately and to return this together with the supporting documentation to the School Reception Office during school hours, 07:30 – 14:00 Monday to Thursday, and, 07:30-12:00 on Fridays.

Returns can be made from Monday 22 April 2025 until the end of September 2024, allowing time for the processing.

NB: The Admissions Committee meet in July for the first screening so it is preferable to return your Request for Application form together with the supporting documentation before the close of school in Term 2 being, 14 June 2024.

 

2.             PSJPS will not be held liable for documents which are not handed directly to a Secretary at the School Reception Office going missing. There is a receipt at the end of each form which must be produced should you have any queries in the future. Queries without the receipt will not be entered into.

NB: Unfortunately, no emailed application forms will be accepted.

 

3.       It is an offence to provide false information.  The application will be nullified if the school becomes aware of any false information which may have been provided in the application.

4.       PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH REQUESTS FOR ADMISSIONS WE TAKE OLDEST CHILDREN FIRST: I.E: Children are enrolled in Grade One in the year that they turn 7 years of age i.e. the child must turn 7 during 2025 - born in 2018.  Exceptions are seldom considered and if so, only after all the children turning 7 in Grade One have been accommodated as school-going is compulsory from the age 7 years. 

          Children enrolled into Grade R must be 5 turning 6 during 2025 – born in 2019.

5.        We do not have any external feeder schools. 

·       We are not able to accommodate all the children who attend the pre-schools from the Port Shepstone and surrounding area as their numbers far out-weigh the places available at PSJP.  Please apply to other local schools in the Port Shepstone area.

·      We can only accommodate 60 learners in Grade R and 110 learners in Grade 1.

 

6.       Please note that all communication regarding Admissions is done via email. PSJPS will not be held accountable for incorrect email addresses provided or emails not being received or read. If the email has been delivered on our side, we will assume you have received your reply.

 

THE FOLLOWING ADMISSION CRITERIA APPLY IN THIS ORDER:

a.    a) Children who are currently enrolled at PSJPS who will be repeating the Grade.

b.    b) Children whose parents reside permanently in Port Shepstone. The residence must be owned by the parent or a rental contract for at least one year must be presented.  Casual accommodation with a relative or friend does not qualify.

c.     c) Children who have older biological brothers or sisters currently enrolled at PSJPS and PS Senior Primary. Please note that Grade R school fees are compulsory and therefore we take into consideration how siblings within the school’s fees have been maintained – they must be up to date.

d.    d) Children whose parents work in Port Shepstone.

DOCUMENTS

The Request for Application form should be legible and fully completed in block letters. The following completed documents must also be supplied with the Request for Application.

1.       Certified copy of the Clinic card.

 

2.        Certified copy of child’s Birth Certificate. Only data on this certificate will be regarded as accurate and will be used for enrolment.  It is compulsory that each child that we enroll has an identity number. 

·       Foreign nationals are to ensure that this is available and that the study documents from the Department of Home Affairs are in order.

 

3.       Certified copy of the most recent school report card, showing the Educator comments; or a letter from the school confirming the attendance and behavior of your child.

 

4.        Certified copy of proof of the child’s permanent residential address.  A copy of an official lease agreement or a utilities account in the name of one of the parents/guardians is acceptable as per the application policy.

·       Please note the Counsellor letters are only acceptable for those living in informal settlements.

·       Affidavits will not be accepted.

         

5.        Certified copy of proof of income for both parents.

 

6.        Certified copy of proof of identity documents for both parents.  (Death certificate for a    deceased parent).

NB:  A partially completed Request for Application form   

OR

 A Request for Application form with documents 1-6 not attached

WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

 

 

 

 

 


All Requests for Application forms submitted will receive equal consideration according to the criteria a-d referred to above. We do not work on a “First Come, First Served” basis. 

ONLY Applicants who successfully fall into these categories will be invited to collect an application form for admission.

This still DOES NOT guarantee place and we strongly advise parents to make application to other schools as well.
